Lets take death for instance. When someone we love passes away, we mourn. We are in a state of
depression. It takes time for us to heal from that pain, but in the end, there is nothing we can do to bring that person back, so we do what we can to move on with our lives. I speak on this issue because it does have relevancy to depression after break up. How you may ask? Well, the only difference is we feel that since the person we break up with is still there, there must be something we can do about it. I want to be sure to stop you right there if that is how you feel. For the most part, we cannot control people. Every person is their own and they will live their lives as they choose. If your partner has decided that it is best that you go your separate ways, then you must respect those wishes and give them the space they desire, even if it goes against what you had planned for your lives together. In any case, the biggest difference in death and a break up is our own psychological approach. In death, we know that there is nothing we can do to bring that person back. In a break up, we have illusions that we can fix it and we go overboard trying. And that is the biggest mistake people make. They try so hard to win that person back that they alienate them even more. In many case studies for human psychology, it has been proven that we all hate rejection and we have a natural need to belong. When a break up happens, we feel rejected and we feel like we don’t belong in that persons world anymore. It goes against things that we have become accustomed to and our minds reject it by that depression after break up.
How to Stop Depression After Break Up
You must curb your way of thinking. You have to distance yourself from your ex partner and move on to things that keep your mind from naturally feeling like you have been rejected and you don’t belong. You need things that give you a sense of accomplishment, such as taking on a new class or starting a new hobby, getting back into some sort of physical fitness routine and stimulating your mind in different ways than your depression after break up is. Depression after break up can easily become something that takes over your entire life and causes you to linger on things that cannot be changed. You have to take control of that and lean toward your support groups such as your family and friends to help you in your current state. Keep yourself busy and occupy your time to take your mind off of the depression after break up.
